What is reformer pilates? A beginner's guide
The machine, the springs, your first class and who it's for.

How does the reformer work?
The reformer consists of a sliding platform (the carriage), a footbar, shoulder rests, straps or loops, and adjustable springs that connect the carriage to the frame. Changing the number and tension of the springs increases or decreases resistance, so the same movement can be adapted to different levels.
The focus of reformer pilates
Reformer pilates has the same focus as classic pilates: breath, control, core awareness and correct execution. In some movements the springs provide resistance, in others support. The goal isn't to compete with heavier resistance, but to perform the movement with control and at your own level.
What happens in your first reformer class?
In your first class, you get to know the machine, the springs and the basic positions for safe use. Your instructor demonstrates the movements, adjusts the resistance for you and suggests alternatives when needed. At BAM Stüdyo, reformer sessions are planned as 60 minutes.
Who is it for?
Different movement options can be considered for beginners and experienced participants alike. If you're pregnant, have an existing condition or an exercise restriction, you should consult your doctor before starting and share this with our team.
